What is the Crosswinds Center?

The Crosswinds Center is a treatment facility serving individuals who require short-term intensive behavioral health treatment, crisis stabilization, and withdrawal management program. Treatment is administered in a community-based setting. 

The facility is unlocked, and admission is entirely voluntary, with 12-beds, private rooms, bathhouses, and staffed by 24/7 nursing care. Psychiatric medical providers see and treat patients admitted to the program daily. In addition to managing mental health crises, providers handle withdrawal from alcohol, benzodiazepines, or opiates. 

The average length of stay is between five to seven days, and Crosswinds Center serves both men and women. A sliding fee scale and/or grant funding are available for the uninsured.

What Services Does the Crosswinds Center Offer?

Crosswinds Center offers various services and amenities to serve its residents during detoxification and crisis restabilization. 

Detoxification

Detoxification treatment focuses on enhancing one’s ability to return to a life without drugs or alcohol, with its primary goal to assist the patient in developing skills necessary to rebuild the social, family, and occupational relationships.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services are also available for alcohol and opiate-dependent person, with a recommendation from the on-staff psychiatrist. Those who are cocaine-dependent are excluded. 

Medical clearance is required for patients with a BAC at or above 0.10.

Crisis Stabilization

Crisis stabilization services are available to patients experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms and require medication adjustments in a protective environment. Services are also available to those persons who desire more intensive treatment than is presently available in outpatient treatment settings. 

Those who have psychosis (hallucinations), cannot consent to voluntary treatment, are unable to protect the safety of themselves or others, and have been diagnosed with Dementia, Autism, or other medical instabilities are excluded from the Crosswinds Center. 

Medical clearance is required in the case of a suspected drug overdose, first psychotic episode, or chronically unstable medical conditions such as diabetes, congestive heart failure, or kidney disease.

How Am I Admitted?

Persons seeking admission to the Crosswinds Center must: 

• Be an adult (18 years of age and older). 
• Have a mental health or substance use disorder requiring intensive, structured treatment.
• Be willing to engage in treatment
• Agree to a nonviolent, drug-free behavior while in treatment
• Be able to participate in all therapy services cognitively

All admissions require approval from the Seneca Health Services medical professionals. An application can be requested from our site or filled out at one of our West Virginia facility locations. Referral questions to be answered in the positive sense are: 

• Is the patient willing and able to engage in treatment?
• Is the patient ready to commit to the safety of self and others?
• Is the patient prepared to remain substance and alcohol-free during treatment?
• Does the patient have a mental health or substance use disorder that requires intensive treatment? 

If you are a male and suffer from SUDs (substance abuse disorder) and require more specified medical attention, our Recovery Ridge facility might be better. 

West Virginia Medicaid is accepted at both locations. In addition, we can help you apply for presumptive eligibility if you meet income guidelines, criteria and have not applied within the past 12 months. 

What Else Should I Know?

Keep in mind that the Crosswinds Center is a smoke-free facility, and smoking cessation products will be available and offered to those patients admitted. 

There are several things that we suggest bringing during your stay with us, including: 

• Two to three pairs of pants/jeans
• Two to three casual shirts
• Two to three sets of undergarments
• Two to three pairs of socks
• One long sleeve shirt or jacket
• Slip-on shoes
• Necessary medications
• Insurance card
• Photo ID
