Honoring Our Veterans

On this Veterans Day, we pause to honor the selfless service of all who have worn the uniform and those who have stepped forward to defend our freedoms, protect our communities, and bear burdens many of us will never fully know. At Seneca Health Services, we believe that honoring our veterans means more than words: it means standing shoulder-to-shoulder, listening, and offering compassionate care tailored to their unique experiences.

We recognize that military service often brings with it distinct stresses — transition to civilian life, exposure to trauma, the weight of invisible wounds like PTSD, depression, anxiety, substance use, and the ripple effects on family, friends, and community. Your courage didn’t end when the uniform came off; it continues in every step you take toward healing, wellness, and purpose. For some veterans, the battle is now internal. You deserve support and healing, just as you once supported and protected others.

Seneca’s Commitment to Veterans
At Seneca Health Services, we are committed to being a partner on that journey. We are a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center serving residents of Greenbrier, Nicholas, Pocahontas, and Webster Counties in West Virginia. Our mission: to provide responsible, accessible, and progressive behavioral-health services, and that mission includes veterans. We believe in holistic care: treating the whole person, not just symptoms.

How We Can Help: Our Services That Support Veterans
Here are key ways Seneca can serve veterans:

  • Mental Health Services
We offer personalized care for a wide range of disorders — anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, mood or psychotic disorders — for children, adolescents, and adults alike. Our therapists are certified in trauma-focused therapies (for example, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy for families. If you’re carrying the weight of trauma from service, those specialized therapies matter.
  • Peer Support
We believe in the power of lived experience. Our peer support specialists include individuals who are veterans or have military family backgrounds — people who know firsthand some of what you face. Having someone walk alongside you who has “been there” can make a difference.
  • Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Services
If substance use is part of your story, whether as a way to cope, a hidden struggle, or something you’re ready to address, we provide assessment, counseling, and medication‐assisted treatment (MAT) when needed. Veterans sometimes carry compound challenges: trauma, identity shift, physical wounds, etc. We’re here to help with that complexity.
  • Crisis Services
When things feel urgent or overwhelming, we’ve got you. Seneca offers 24/7 crisis support and immediate access to professional help. You don’t have to wait; reaching out is a sign of strength.
  • Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities Support
For veterans or family members who live with intellectual or developmental disabilities and behavioral-health needs, Seneca provides home and community-based support to promote independence and self-sufficiency.

Why It Matters
Veterans often have a unique sense of service, duty, and community. Yet the transition back to civilian life can feel isolating. Mental health challenges may feel stigmatized. Substance use may be a shadow in the background. But healing and wellness are possible — and you don’t have to walk that path alone. At Seneca, we see you. We respect your service. We know your challenges are real. And we are here to partner with you in restoring wellness, rebuilding connections, and reclaiming purpose.

  • You don’t need to wait for a “perfect time” — if you’re thinking “maybe I need help,” call us at 888-SENECA9 (888-736-3229).
  • We accept a range of insurance types (including Medicaid, Medicare, private, and military insurance) — we’ll work with you to explore what applies.
  • Our clinics are located in smaller communities because local access matters: Greenbrier, Nicholas, Pocahontas, and Webster counties.
  • If mobility or distance is a barrier, ask about telehealth or virtual sessions — we use technology to broaden reach.

This Veterans Day, we offer our deepest gratitude. But gratitude alone isn’t enough. To every veteran reading: if you carry a burden that feels too heavy, if sleep is broken, if memories still want to scream, if alcohol or drugs are knocking again, if relationships feel distant — reach out. You deserve care that honors your service and supports your healing. Seneca is ready.

For those of us who are not veterans, today is a reminder that service never ends when someone returns home. It continues when we offer care, community, and respect. If you know a veteran who might benefit from behavioral health support, please share this information. The difference between “I’ll do it later” and “I’ll call now” may be huge.

To all who have served — thank you. Thank you for sacrifices known and unknown. At Seneca Health Services, we’re privileged to serve you now, as you once served us. On this Veterans Day, we honor your bravery, your service, your resilience — and we reaffirm our commitment to walk beside you in the journey to wellness, recovery, and renewed purpose.

You served us. Today and every day, we’re here to serve you.
